Jennifer and Patrick, the husband and wife team who co-founded Slim and Trim Snacks, previously worked in different industries. She came up through the ranks on Wall Street and he was a mechanical engineer, automating plants within the food industry to create greater operational efficiencies.
In 2009, during the "great recession," Jennifer had grown disillusioned with the fast-paced, risk-intolerant lifestyle of Wall Street after having begun her career twenty two years before the other memorable 1987 crash. She wanted a more purposeful life - one that focused more on people's personal as opposed to financial health. And since she'd seen the benefits of adhering to a plant-based lifestyle she thought that there had to be a way of sharing them with others. When her husband was diagnosed with hypertension, she created plant-based meals that were clean, nutrient-dense, and provided gut support. Patrick, who was previously a sceptic, felt compelled to spread the word as to the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle when his condition improved. They decided that a needed existed for others and so Slim and Trim Snacks was born (she being the recipe developer and marketer and he the plant engineer).
In 2012, Slim and Trim Snacks launched its first line of dehydrated kale chips which soon became available in regional north east Whole Foods Market stores and other independents.
But while the kale chips were gaining traction Slim and Trim’s founders decided to create products that could double as a meal replacement and satisfy many of the pain points that afflict the modern lifestyle. In addition, they wanted to distribute them directly to the customer to focus more on their needs.
We hope that through our mission to make good gut health cool we can inspire people to use the agency they have to create the healthiest lifestyle they were meant to enjoy.
Slim and Trim Snacks is minority-owned, is MWBE certified and is run by the husband and wife team of Patrick and Jennifer. It's operations are based in Glen Cove, New York.
